Millaa Millaa is a scenic village on the Tropical Atherton Tablelands easily accessed from Innisfail and Cairns. It is part of the Waterfall and Crater Lakes district, which also includes Malanda and Yungaburra.

The word 'millaa' is aboriginal for 'waterfall' and 'Millaa Millaa' means 'many waterfalls'. At 900 metres above sea level the district enjoys a cooler mountain climate than coastal districts and high rainfall.

Farming and Aquaculture

The climate makes it an ideal location for dairy farming, and this has been the dominant economic activity around Millaa for most of its history. The town once had a butter factory, but today milk is sent for processing at the Malanda milk factory.

The nearby Tarzali Lakes aquaculture center offers camping, platypus viewing, fishing, and gourmet foods.

Pioneering industries focused on harvesting the rainforest timbers and dairy farming. Today these activities are part of a diversifying economy that contains a growing tourism and hospitality component as well as agriculture. There is a pub, post office, golf course, museum, cafes, and stores, and nearby is the Mungalli biodynamic cheese factory.

Millaa Millaa has accommodation to suit every budget from caravan park and camping, to luxury bed and breakfast retreats.
