Chinese Robbed

Money Bag Cut Away

Cairns, Monday

Yuen Look, a Chinese market gardener, is alleged to have been assaulted and robbed of £9 while driving home to his garden along a lonely road, near Freshwater, on Saturday night.

Look stated that two men rushed from the sugar-cane at the side of the road. One caught hold of his horse's head and the other jumped onto the cart and cut the straps of the leather bag which was hanging around Look's neck. The men then ran away, taking the bag, containing £9, with them.

So sudden was the attack that Look had no time to use the revolver which he carried. When the bag was cut away he sustained a lacerated wound on the left arm, and ambulance bearers took him to the Cairns Hospital.
